   This Dutch anti-piracy organisation is called \”Stichting Brein\”, that would translate as \”Brain Foundation\”. Basically they\’re a group of people who claim to hate piracy but in reality they\’re a bunch of losers with nothing better to do. They were founded in 1998 but achived very little. They\’ve had several lawsuits filed against them, like invasion of privacy, obstructing freedom of speech and, get this, copyright infringement. Their tweets to Pirate bay are just another desperate attempt to justify their existence. Everybody in the Netherlands loathes the Brain Foundation, but it\’s hard to get rid of them.

   The site’s always been open to trackbacks. For some reason, the trackback spams have been coming in for this entry. Have deleted three already. A couple of our other sites get hundreds of trackback spams every day, but I’ve got Akismet trained pretty well on those sites. Guess I’ll have to start doing the same here.

   It’s surprisingly easy to get swords. There are always loads of adverts for mail order sword companies in the sci-fi magazines over here.

   I’m with Colin on this one. Swords are easy to get. I’ve even seen them in mall stores before. There used to be a cutlery store near where I used to live that carried them. You just walk in and buy one. No license or anything. You can also order them online and have them delivered to your door.

   I even have one that Talli bought me. It’s a replica Templar hand and a half Sword. They also call those bastard swords. Probably because they’re huge and you’d look like one tough bastard if you were carrying one. To head off the question of why I’d want one, I was a history minor and I focused on the medieval church and the warrior monks like the Templars, Teutonic Knights, Hospitallers, etc. And it looks pretty cool. One of these days I have to mount it on the wall.

   Now as for what you want to face indoors, take your chances with an inexperienced swordsman over an inexperienced gun handler. It’s hard to use a sword well, but a gun…it’s point and click. Dead simple.

   Oh and the name of Lahaina’s is from the Hawaiian word Lahaina which means: “merciless sun.” It’s pronounced La-High-Na. There is actually a city with that name on Maui. Been there a couple times on frequent flyer miles from my old job. It’s a beautiful place to visit.

   I love “As The Type Moves”. That stuff is GOLD.

   The Mx afternoon train newspaper here has started to do “overheards” like people do OH: blah blah blah on Twitter. Some of them are hilarious! Others show people to be stupid. I wish the newspaper had a proper online site so a) I don’t have to get the paper every day and b) I can share them easily and c) other people (especially that couple called Shawno and Jen from SLO) can read them too.

   I have heard a number of stories that are similar to this. there was one where a man broke into a house with the intention on stealing and raping the woman inside. Little did he know that she was a black belt in martial arts. Lets just say she dislocated a few of his joints.

   It amazes me that twitter has become such a phenomenon. Leaders in Iran were using it to set up meetings and the like. What scares me is that terrorists may be using it to coordinate attacks on us. I suppose our government is watching everything that is being twittered. That brings up another scary point. Is big brother watching all the twitter posts?

   So that’s how you pronounce that Hawaiian word! Thanks for filling us in on the meaning behind that one.
   And about the swords… after I recorded the show, I realized that, oh, right, people can just go to the Renn Faires and pick up a sword, if they have enough money. In fact, I knew someone once who had a few swords. Also, I always thought the term “Bastard Sword” for hand and a half swords was because it wasn’t exactly a one handed, and also wasn’t exactly a two handed. It’s like… both yet neither? I dunno. I could be completely wrong about that.

   Richard,
   I’ve no idea if “Big Brother” is watching the twitter posts or not. All I know is that if some government person is watching mine, they either think I’m a mad poet, or, that I’m speaking in some sort of code. I guess it would depend on if they knew what a haiku was or not.
