Yay, the big mystery is sovled, Jen used to -not anymore, congrats jen- work for Barnes & Noble! You never mentioned Barnes & Noble before, did you? Is it ok for us now to leave comments about Barnes & Noble? I think Barnes & Noble should be a new anti-spam word, but like i said i’m not sure if i can mention Barnes & Noble, if i can’t mention Barnes & Noble let me know and i won’t say Barnes & Noble anymore. Was there a Barnes & Noble in San francisco? Ok i’ll stop now, i have to get the Chinamen out of Barnes & Noble by lunch.
January 6th, 2009 at 8:50 am
Yeah, Dave, you can say Barnes & Noble. I think I may have mentioned on the show before that I worked for Barnes & Noble, (back when we did the midnight party for the seventh Harry Potter book). There was a Barnes & Noble in San Francisco, which we walked by. My friend told me “Don’t look over there… evil Corporation, bad memories”, and I immediately knew he meant there was a Barnes & Noble lurking behind me somewhere. I also mentioned on Inside My Head that I worked for, and no longer worked for, Barnes & Noble, and then did a big, fat, rant about the “Things I Shall Not Miss”. It’s Ok, Dave, lots of other people out there are mentioning Barnes & Noble too!
And, when I read “Yay, the big mystery is solved”…. I thought maybe you were referring to the Winchester Mystery House. Silly me!

In that case, A luscious and Barnes & Noble-free 2009 to the both of you!

Happy New Year everyone.
Here in the UK the analogue TV service is also going to be turned off pretty soon. It’s not as imminent as the US though.
I’m not teenage anymore, 30 in 5 days
, but if I was into WOW that could easily have been my list of presents. Instead I got Dr Who DVD’s and a radio with an iPod dock. Very Cool.
I don’t have a real problem with chop-sticks, but how does a region where the staple food is rice manage to feed itself? That is surely the hardest thing to eat with chop-sticks.
Aaah the freaks of San Francisco. The ‘Real America’ shivers…
Why is Google Ads telling me to buy Xanax?
I’m not sure if you get notified or not, but you can expect something in your PO Box fairly soon.

The Winchester Mystery House is sure a weird place. I really enjoyed going through there when I went a bunch of years back. The one thing I always thought would be really fun is to go on the Halloween candle light tours they have. That has to lend some extra ambience to that place.
Glad to hear that you gave the old chopsticks a try, Shawno. I love those things and I\’ve gotten pretty good at using them. Then again, I grew up in the SF Bay Area and half the people in my high school classes were asian. So, I guess it\’s not much of an accomplishment because I had a lot of practice. It\’s actually fun once you get the hang of it. And you\’d be surprised how quick some people can eat with chopsticks, even with rice. That\’s why a lot of asians like the sticky rice. It\’s easy to eat with chopsticks. At least that\’s the reason I think they like it.
Ok, now I have to find something to eat with chopsticks. Hmmm…I don\’t think a PB&J would work with that though…Maybe I\’ll have to wait until I have something a little more suitable…

What is it with the American obsession with PB & J?
January 7th, 2009 at 8:33 am
Hey Shawno, want to come with me to Canadia? (which is my spam word)
I enjoyed hearing what you guys have been up to and your trip to SF.
And just because Jen will probably never get sick of this sentence “NO MORE RETAIL HELL!”

I’m not a fan of peanut butter and jelly. I like my sandwiches with just peanut butter, thanks.
January 7th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
I don’t like Peanut Butter in sandwiches at all. On toast however…
January 7th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Well, at least it’s not Vegemite.
January 7th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Marmite’s my other absolute favourite thing to have on toast.
January 7th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
This is turning into some weird snack blog isn’t it.
January 7th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
Shanwo, are you on (my spam word) drugs? Vegemite FTW! I’ll be bringing a massive bottle with me on my trip and I’ll give you some the way I like it. In fact, I’m about to have some now. Nom nom nom.
I don’t know about anyone else but I don’t like crunchy PB, only smooth.
January 7th, 2009 at 7:10 pm
I prefer the smooth peanut butter, too. And Vegemite ain’t that bad. Hope you can get that bottle passed airport security, though.
January 7th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
I’m a crunchy man myself, and this is definitely turning into a weird snack blog.
January 7th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
One thing I don’t care for is Ranch dressing. That stuff is for kids. I enjoy a good Caesar dressing, though. Thousand Island isn’t bad, either.
January 7th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Leigh the Voice Over Guy’s standard line when he gets Thousand Island dressing is that he is going to make sure he gets all his Thousand Islands.
I don’t think he has Thousand Island on his pizza (spam word), though!

On Hyper Nonsense, somehow, it all comes back to food. I guess the Hyper Nonsense blog is no different.
January 8th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Ok, first of all, I’m not obsessed with PB & J, but hey I had the ingredients readily available. Second of all, vegemite? Really?
Here’s the search result for it on yahoo:
Vegemite: Information from Answers.com
Vegemite Trade name for … Vegemite (IPA: /ˈvɛdʒɨmaɪt/) is a dark brown food paste made from … smiling, attractive healthy children singing a catchy jingle …
I’ve tasted it and didn’t like it. Now I know why, it’s made from children.
Puts peanut butter in perspective a little doesn’t it? It’s just made from peanuts.
And yeah, I know it’s made from brewers yeast extract. So, kudos to the beer makers for recycling, but seems like a weird thing to spread on bread. I’m not knocking it, but it seems like a strange thing to come up with. I can just see the discussion.
“Hey Bill, what do we do with all this brewers yeast now that the beer is made?”
“Geez, just throw it away.”
“The garbage man said they’d charge us a thousand to haul it.”
“That’s no good, then we won’t make any money. Is there anything else we can do with it?”
*a six pack later*
“Why don’t we feed it to your dog? He’ll eat it anything!”
“There’s too much. He’ll get sick.”
*another six pack later*
Let’s just put it in jars and sell it!”
“Sounds good to me. Kids will eat it. Pass me another beer. I’ll shovel some into some jars right now and get the marketing guys on it.”
(That’s actually a transcript from the sober guy in the room. He thought it would be funny to show to them later when they got arrested…)
January 8th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
And creamy not crunchy. Crunchy are peanuts that can’t decide if they want to be peanuts or peanut butter or just a lazy peanut butter maker. You have to pick one!
January 8th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
LOLZ, David.

Happy New Years and all that guff! Another $5 million bucks worth of fireworks exploded over Sydney and the joy of proof reading patient notes to see who has written 08 instead of 09.
Hate to rain on San Fran’s parade, but they’re not the last city in the world to have trolley/trolley cars/trams/tram cars/street cars. Nor do they have the largest network. That “honour” goes to Melbourne, Australia. Melbourne has 499 trams running on 249 kilometres (155 miles) of track with 1770 tram stops. I rode trams in Instanbul, Turkey when I was there. Great way of getting around the place.
Loved all the photos you took of the Winchester rifles Shawno!
Winchester didn’t invent the repeating rifle, but he certainly did master it! A gentleman by the name of Walter Hunt designed a revoluntionary repeating rifle in 1848. In 1849 Lewis Jennings patented an improved version of Hunt’s design. His designed ceased production in 1852 due to financial troubles. In 1854 Horace Smith & Daniel B. Wesson purchased the rights to Jenning’s design and started a compnay called Volcanic Repeating Arms. In 1855 one Oliver Winchester invested in Volcanic Repeating Arms. A few years later Smith & Wesson left Volcanic Repeating Arms to create the now famous Smith & Wesson. In 1860 Winchester renamed the company New Haven Arms Company with head foreman Benjamin Tyler Henry. In 1866 New Haven Arms became Winchester Repeating Arms Company. Henry redesigned the rimfire ammunition developed by Wesson and redesigned a new repeating rifle retaining only the general form of the breech mechanism and the tubular magazine. This became the Winchester Model 1866. It’s successor, the Winchester Model 1873 became known as “The Gun That Won The West”. Successive Winchester lever action repeating rifles were Models 1876, 1886, 1892, 1894, 1895 and the Model 88 introduced in 1955, the first Winchester lever action rifle to use a box magazine instead of a tubular magazine.
OK, here endeth the firearms history lesson.
)
Vegemite FTW! Do not accept immitations!
Sounds like you both had a wonderful time in San Fran. Oh and good show.

Tim knew all of that without having to look any of it up.
January 8th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
All Orange Tim has to do now is to record the audio (my spam word) and he has a new episode for his podcast!
January 9th, 2009 at 12:07 am
Good show! Work SUCKED tonite it was the only good thing about tonite….cops are douchebags!
January 9th, 2009 at 12:09 am
Oh and FYI…it’s AWESOME jen got out of B AND N
January 9th, 2009 at 12:16 am
I try.
My podcast, when it gets relaunched into the podosphere, is going to such an ecclectic mix of subjects!
My interest in firearms is not one shared by many, but love them or loathe them, we live in a world of firearms. They can be used for good and bad, just like most things in this world.
The girls at work reckon I’m a sponge. I absorb all this information just for the sake of it. It comes in handy at trivia nights though! LOL!
January 11th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
@Orange Tim: San Francisco cable car system is the world’s last permanently operational manually-operated cable car system, they’re not trams as the cars are pulled from a cable that the cars grip on to. (it must be true it’s in wikipidia)
@Erk @ the Erk Pod: Marmite > Vegemite.
January 11th, 2009 at 6:16 pm
We were having a bit of an early spring clean earlier and I found something else to send to your PO Box…
