Sorry, doughman. It’s been fixed.

That was so frakkin’ funny listening to Erk order unhealthy KFC (yes the KFC chick did sound cute) and then listening to some bloke from Auburn KFC saying his job is great!
Hope everything works out fine with your little cockatiel.
Vanya looks fantastic as Sarah “Hockey Mom” Palin. But where is her M16?
It was really funny hearing Australian train horns, when I’m so used to hearing the booming horn from the SLO trains on this podcast. I’m surprised Erk didn’t explain how the train horn works and how there are two different sounds!
One of the problems with travelling from Australia to USA and vice versa, is that it’s a protected route. Basically this means only a few select airlines (Qantas, Air New Zealand & United) can fly direct between Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane and Los Angeles. Not a lot of competition, so prices are reasonably high. The SYD to LAX route is one of the most profitable for Qantas. Unlike the Sydney to London route, which has loads of competing airlines, the prices can sometimes be cheaper, despite being considerably further away. In regards to round the world tickets, you must travel in one direction around the globe and you must make a certain number of stops in certain continents. For example 3 stops in North America, 4 in Europe, 4 in Asia etc etc. Generally SYD to LAX takes 13 to 14 hrs, depending on the winds.

Thanks Shawno for having me on. It was a blast (boom tish) and it was an enjoyable way to spend a part of my weekend.
As Tim said, there are two different types of horns. There is a really loud horn (we call it a country horn) that is really meant to get your attention and can be heard over a longer distance. The other horn (what we call the town horn) is meant for use around town (as the name suggests). On some trains we have a combined town and country horn that is a blend of both.
I must add a little to the training involved. For me it was 6 months of training and I needed a minimum of 200 hours of actual driving in a variety of conditions in addition to theory and other practical training. I was a Guard beforehand (think conductor) but the current “off the street” length of the course is now 9 months with additional driving hours.
Also I must point out to listeners that there were no safety issues while talking to Shawno.

i love the “train is about to move” if anyone got ran over call that Darwin law

Just to add a bit to the confusion about trams and trolleys: There are trolley busses in Arnhem, very odd looking things.
My voice comment was “a Hypernonsense exclusive” as the kids on CNN say, although did use my own voice once for Yeast Radio 100 on a mix where i said “cunt” about 30 times.
About accents, if the both of you visit Chicago, can people hear a change in your accent now that you live if SLO? One of my best friends used to live in Chicago, he’s originally from Pakistan and he’s only aware of his Pakistani accent when he’s visiting me. Probably because i sound like an American douche nozzle compared to the “real” Dutch and my accent tends to disappear when i’m drunk.
The emergency phone number in the Netherlands and the rest of the EU is 112.

hey guys, im sorry for being a dick on the leaderboard
plz gimmie a second chance

Funny you mention Trolley Buses Dave. It brought back memories from when I visited the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. We rode on trolley busses from Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg and back. These were odd looking things as well. I found it interesting that these were privately funded and were used for public transport. What I found even stranger was the manufacturer of these trolley busses. E-One. Better known as manufacturers of fire appliances, ambulance and other emergency vehicles.

We have a trolley bus here, as well. It makes loops between downtown and some of the hotels on the north side of town. It only runs on weekends.

Doughboy, the “attention staff, train about to move” announcement is for the staff who in theory shouldn’t be on the train but probably are. The horn is for the staff walking around the place on the tracks who should be scared of the train coming but probably aren’t.

Thanks, Erk, for stepping in and co-hosting for me.
I am greatly amused that Shawno felt the need specifically mention that, no, we did not split up, and no, that wasn’t the reason I wasn’t on this show. Too funny!
ugh… my anti-spam word is “chillaxin” Ewwww!

Love the Vanya pic – just a scary as the real thing.
Erk, I think you have a job almost every boy wanted when they were young. Great stuff.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
If you do a little Google image search you’ll see that there are trolley buses all over the world. I didn’t know that, i’m either on the subway or with my head in the clouds.
October 28th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
if you asked a canadian what a trolley was they would say \”i dunno\”
October 28th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Rowley,
Glad you liked the “Vanya as Sarah Palin” picture! The creation of the nabaztag costume was inspired by how much Sarah Palin scares me, as well as lack of sleep. I do strange things when I am overtired!
October 30th, 2008 at 5:30 am
hey how are you all doing this morning.. i gave it a test and asked a coustemer if he knew what a trolley was and he said its a shoping cart… i think he was from england but he is in canadia… i tohught it was cool that he thought it was a shoping cart
October 30th, 2008 at 8:01 am
Thanks everyone for the comments on the show. I enjoy my job and I enjoy podcasting so it was a great chance to combine both! It was a blast doing this episode with Shawno and we’ll have to do it again when I am driving somewhere LOL
October 30th, 2008 at 10:21 am
What do YOU think of when you hear the word “trolley,” Jacob?
And Erk, maybe we should make it a regular show. “Erk and Shawno in the morning.” Yeah, that’d rule.
October 30th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
“Erk and Shawno in the morning” could easily become the most populair podcasts ever, if Erk was an airline pilot. With a “plane about to crash, plane about to crash” it probably would also be the shortest running one.
October 30th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Whats a trolley shawno?
October 30th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
Shawno & Erk in the afternoon would be better, I don’t do mornings if I can help it – not like people like Squeak!
October 30th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Great show! I listened tonite. I was bummed that there was no Jen but I got over it. Trains are cool huh huh huh huh

Hope the birdie’s doing OK, seems I’m not the only one with pet related stress.
Mmmmmm KFC… *drool, drool*
Here in the UK we only have the fountain sodas in fast food chains. I’d love the option to get bottles instead, but I guess it’s not to be.
I don’t have a mixer here, I don’t think I really need one. I just plug my mic straight into my soundcard. Then again I’m not an ‘audio nerd’.
‘I still have no idea what it’s about, but I like it anyway’. That should be the new motto for Hyper Nonsense.
5 YEARS!!!!!! Only in Japan…
I’m well prepared for NaPodPoMo. I’ve got all the tracks I’m going to play lined up and ready to go. All I’ve got to do is record a link every night. Best laid plans…
Erk, if you’re short of a guest I could step in as well.
Pete Cogle from the PC Podcast is also supposed to be doing NaPodPoMo as well, so that’s at least three of us Brits.
Hey, I’ve got so little to spend money on I may as well spread the love.
The airline industry is indeed in trouble. Recently one of the low-cost airlines here in the UK went bust. It stranded hundreds of people abroad with no way to get home. The funniest part of this was that they were sponsoring one of our top-flight football (soccer) teams and now they are out of business the team has to play without a sponsor across the front of their shirts.
Shawno, your impression of Jen is pathetic.
November 1st, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Colin, my impression of just about anything is pathetic.
November 4th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
I wanna speak to the KFC chick lol I will be dropping by that KFC once I have transferred to the depot erk is at next week.
Thanks for clarifying the trolley fund, even though I have looked at the trolley fund page I was still thinking “Why do shawno and Jen need a shopping trolley” lol
Vote 1 Vanya for Vice Pres!!!
