Damn, that was a long show. The world marathon record stands at 2:04:26, that means that i could have run about 26 miles while listening to this show. Well, not me, Haile Gebrselassie from Ethiopia could.

The reason i don’t like cell phones isn’t because of cell phones, it’s because of a car phone, one of those “portable” things the size of a milk carton they had in the early ’90’s. Right after i graduated from art skool i got a job as a photographer’s assistant. The job sucked, and what sucked even more was a damn telephone ringing all the time. After a week or so this photographer asked me to go visit some client and i thought, good, no more telephone ringing, at least for a little while. So i get in the car, sit back and try to relax when all of a sudden i hear a telephone ringing. “Oh that’s my car phone, could you get that?” I freaked out, got out of the car and ran. Not 26 miles, but close.

Bunny has a name-o! You’ll hear about it in the Round Table!

As for Dawn & Drew, I used to listen too. They were on about twice a week when I was listening but it jumped the shark when Dawn “went away” for a couple of episodes but there was “Dawn’s sister/cousin” who sounded almost Dawn. Besides, I’ve got plenty to listen to and it’s a bit of a case of “same old, same old” towards the end.

Good to hear that some of my listeners are taking part in your show as well. I don’t know if Shawno did read Ben’s email before going on a tangent. LOL at Nathan being in the contest without even knowing it!

I cannot stand those programs that dredge the bottom of the gene pool - and then expose citizens to their baby making experiences. There is a program here in the UK called the Jeremy Kyle Show - he does the same thing, but he does shout at the guests, especially when the guest interrupt him, or it’s teenagers tearing their mothers sanity to shreds.
I blame Jerry Springer for this format.

    Dave,
I think that being forced to answer a constantly ringing phone at work all day pretty much guarantees that you will hate cell phones ever after. I will never have one, because of how much I hate, hate, hate! the screaming banshee of a phone I’m forced to carry at work, five days a week.

    Erk,
I hope RT went well. Missed being on it this time. Next time, maybe? Bunny has a name-O! Awesome! Gonna have to wait until I get back from work to check that out.

    Rowley,
I agree, that Jerry Springer was likely the one to start the whole “let’s see how much dirty laundry we can expose in public” format for “talk” shows. I watch Maury from time to time, because he’s not quite as awful as Jerry Springer. Not sure what could be more ridiculous than Jerry. Watching these types of shows reminds me of my home town, and why it was a great idea to leave. And, the shows like the one we mentioned on HN remind me of my family. My aunt is pretty much raising many of my various cousin’s children. But, at least none of them feel the need to get up on stage and scream about it. ;)

All 3 parts of the RT are now on the website and all parts will be on iTunes within the next 24 hours or so.

As for Jerry, I don’t think he himself is that bad. He does make an effort to get to the issues, ask the questions that need to be asked but also show empathy. I can’t say that I know any of the other shows but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

But the concept of the show does appeal to the lowest common denominator, that’s for sure. You’d have to know that if you get invited to come onto Jerry that no good can come out of it. After all, an invite onto the stage of Jerry usually isn’t for a good thing. And even if people are acting like has been rumoured, people are still going to the show. If he had no guests, he’d have no show in it’s current format.

Jerry Springer is just like WWE. A staged performance! Jerry is a well educated man, a lawyer no less, but sometimes his poor judgement gets the best of him. Like when he went to pay a call girl with a cheque (check). What’s the deal I hear you ask? Well it was from Office of the Mayor, City of Cincinnati, OH….. and he was Mayor at the time.

You should here some of the outright rubbish we have her on talk back radio. Mind you a few years ago, a voice actor came out and stated he was the voice for over a dozen different “callers” to a high rating Sydney talkback radio show.

As for mobile (cell) phones, I literally grew up with them. I’ve had my own for longer than I can remember. Having said that, I don’t believe 8 yr olds should have their own!

We’ve got a govt benefit called the Baby Bonus here. Basically it’s a one of payment, paid by the Federal Govt when a child is born. I think it’s around $5000 AUD at the moment. Anyways, we got teenaged mums down here called “Baby Bonus Mums”. Basically teenaged girls getting pregnant, having babies, just for the money. This sends current affairs and talkback shows into a frenzy. I wonder what Jerry or Maury would have to say????

  7. Erk @ the Erk Pod said:

Further to Orange Tim’s comment about the Baby bonus here in Australia, it was originally (I think) $3000 and has recently gone up to $5000. At the moment it is a one off payment into your big fat beefy wallet. However the Government have (finally!) realised that some people would waste that money on a widescreen TV etc so for some groups of people, the $5000 will be paid in installments.

I think that one of the reasons for having the Baby bonus is so we can have more babies. Also, it is supposed to be for those extra baby related expenses and also (possibly) a way for the parents to be able to stay home longer with their new born as maternity/parentity leave varies widely from public/private sectors.

As for mobile phones, I initially got my first one about 1994/1995 when I started working. My commute was about an hour each way on the train plus walking time so it was a security thing initially. Now I am on it a lot with friends, surfing the interweb and listening to podcasts on it. Hell, I’ve even spoken to Shawno & Jen on it during a HN Live episode recently!

the whole tv and radio call in/ text in thing has really hit the fan over here, broadcasters are being fined left right and centre, when you’re charging premium rates for calls and texts and get caught cheating, people (and the regulators) are not happy.

I stopped listening to the Daily Source Code a month ago after listening since March 2005 and I am still listening to Dawn and Drew since starting at about the same time. The reason I stopped listening to Daily Source Code is that Curry is increasingly becoming more and more paranoid and conspiracy theory oriented. I loved your comment about the weed, Shawno. I listen to No Agenda and once a week of Curry is fine for me and Dvorak counters him a little. Dawn and Drew is still funny and entertaining for me. I always stop after “Good Night Inkernet” and never listen to the audio comments.

As always a good show, and I’m trying to catch up.
