Okay, real quick comment: DO NOT WATCH THE MOVIE “DOOM”! It sucks, has little or no action, and only the sound that the doors make are vaguely reminiscent of the game. The people that made this piece of crap should be executed and then shot again just to make sure.

Benders Big Score was entertaining, it’s nice to see Fry and the gang together again. Lots of visual comedy.
I have still not seen scarface – obviously I need to see this before I die.
Doom? I’ve seen it, it’s novel, but it could have been a lot more. I wouldn’t recommend it, but if you want big guns and demon/alien shooting then you have to go to Aliens and Starship Troopers, both great non-mind taxing entertainment.

G’day Shawno & Jen
I think you should keep the comments even if you get a forum. I have been in other forums and the owners need be heavily involved and have a good Admin or two. I can see both pros and cons but I’m typing this on my mobile. But keep the comments!
Feel free to pick any of my promos. Surprise me.
Homeless Guy probably wanted free board and accommodation. Back to the ep!

Shawn what happened with the Internet that was so bad? Anyway I enjoyed the show, a few thoughts:
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve got into dorm room debates about the merits (or lack there of) in regards to Scarface. On this one I am in total agreement with you Shawn. Scarface(yes it was 1983) is overrated. No two ways about it. I am of the mind that Brian De Palma films in general are largely overrated but, Scarface sure takes the cake. Its hard to find a male around my age that agrees with me on this matter, but I was happy to hear that you both weren’t too impressed with it. In the matter of violence I kind of disagree Shawn, the chainsaw in the bathtub and the “last stand” scene are still pretty vicious and have bite after all these years. This film definitely has an ill tempered nasty streak running though it and the violence is comparatively ugly. I think for its time it was considered very violent – considering it came from a serious director and was not considered an exploitation film- and if I am not mistaken was originally slapped with an “X” rating before the MPAA finally relented and gave it an “R” rating. I think thats why people around my age still gravitate towards it. Yeah there have certainly been a number of more violent films since then but the violence in Scarface has such a cruel and hateful undercurrent to it.
The Grand Theft Auto connection is alive and well with this film. Many aspects from the “Vice City” seem to be inspired from the film, but the connection was there even before that game. In “GTA III” there was a local radio station in Liberty City – the fictional city where the third game takes place – that played a lot of the retro tunes that are actually present in Scarface. Not only that but the whole free- roam- do- whatever- you -want -with- little- to- no- consequences-because-the-world-is-there-for-the-taking feels very much in keeping with the portrait that Scarface paints. The film has also been helped to stay relevant by rap and hip hop culture which seems fond of dropping references to the flick. People always go on and on about how great Al Pacino is in that flick. Yeah he chews scenery like no one’s business and he brings the right presence and menace to film, but he is SO over the top that I just can’t bring myself to say its a great performance. Unfortunately this would become more than just somewhat of a hallmark in many, many of his performances since Scarface. Good flick, but not a great film. 3/5 also.
Also I think it was Dennis Franz (my boy Sipowicz) who played the immigration officer in that one scene. The actor from Juno who’s name your thinking of is Michael Cera. Don’t think I’ll be checking out Smiling Fish and Goat On Fire anytime soon. Don’t get me started on Gweneth (I was starred in the worst film to win best picture,a and by the way what DID ever happen to my career?) Paltrow and Chris (I’m a prissy, whiny little wuss, but I would still like to take Bono’s crown even though our band has nary an original idea of our own) Martin naming their child “APPLE”. Let’s just say it confirmed what douche bags they really are and gave me more reason to hate, and hate I will.
What is this about you two complaining about bums when you came from Chicago???! You live in SAN LUIS OBISPO, the bum problems don’t even compare! And you know with me growin up on tha mean streetz of D.C., Baltimore(B-more) AND BETHESDA that I had to deal with the often intelligent, swindling and crafty intricate circuits of street roamerz up in dat piece! Plus look where I live now! I live across the street from bum central (aka Golden Gate Park, where Radiohead is coming to play this August! I wonder if the bums won’t really rush the stage). Come on you both know that the bum threat in little old San Luis Obispo ain’t got s*it on Chi town and other places.
Speaking of fetishes, thanks for that disturbing google video link Jenn. I don’t think I will EVER be able to look at dolls the same way(saving up 4,000 pounds as I type this).
About the forum. To be honest I’m not really sure what to think. Its not like I rate very high on the feedback leader board or anything, so I’m not sure how much my opinion matters. Although I didn’t vote I am fine with the way the board is now. If you want to upgrade to a forum then by all means do so. My gut reaction was that I probably wouldn’t post anymore then I already do, but who knows?
As for Aliens, I am glad you came across the Director’s Cut and both enjoyed it. I will have to save my thoughts for another post where I can go into more detail about seeing it on the big screen finally (great experience) and my thoughts in general on the film and the Alien saga. Peace out y’all.

Thanks for playing the promo. I played yours again on my podcast yesterday. I have a little collection of promos and now you’re in the rotation.
It’s not ‘Dancing Paper’ it’s ‘Dancing Pogo’. That sample comes from a track I’ve played on my show called ‘Dancing Pogo In The Shoes Of Kylie Minogue’. That woman at the end comes from a track called ‘Michelle Plays Ping Pong’ by Daisy Daisy.
Regarding comments vs. forum, I just don’t have the time with organising my own show to fully participate in a forum. I much prefer just dropping in comments after I listen to your show and letting it become a kind of stream of conciousness.
On the subject of Scarface. I believe it’s one of those films that has become a ‘classic’ long after it first came out. I think that it’s the rap community that has made it more popular than perhaps it should be. The themes in the film of get rich or die trying strike a chord with these ‘musicians’ and they’ve made so many references and taken so many images from the film over the years that it’s become a trickle down effect.

I remember this story from a few years ago on a train station. It was just before morning rush hour and I was emptying used tickets from the ticket gates while talking to the Duty Manager.
I’m reaching down to the bottom of the bin in the gate and the DM compliments me on my aftershave. I get my head out of the bin and turn around and I smell the un-mistakable smell of homeless person and see not the smiling face of the DM but a homeless lady. How can two people of the same gender be so different?

Hmmmm. I submit a comment via my mobile phone’s interweb and when I do it, it comes back with a 404 error. Then I check the site and it is indeed there! Hmmm
