Apple was one of the first companies to register a .com domain name in 1987. But here’s a little something i found: “mtv.com: The MTV domain name was originally taken by MTV video jockey Adam Curry. Although MTV originally showed little interest in the domain name or the Internet, when Adam Curry left MTV the company wanted to control the domain name. After a federal court action was brought, the dispute settled out of court.”
It didn’t take me very long to hunt down that song by Cowboy Junkies, it’s on a CD called Black Eyed Man, bought it in 1992. Cowboy Junkies were very poplar in Canadia, i’ve been to one of their concerts once in Toronto, 1989 i think it was. No idea what they’re up to now, but look up “Sweet Jane” on Youtube, it’s classic.
I have several Cowboy Junkies albums, Dave. But I hadn’t heard “Murder, In The Trailer Park” before. And I agree - their cover of “Sweet Jane” is awesome.
Here in Texas, it began to rain last March and did not stop until August.
It DID NOT STOP.
I survived only by huddling in my house, repeating, “It’s good for the farmers. It’s good for the farmers.”
I agree with you about The Wire. It’s realistic and thought-provoking and the villains are like something out of a Bond movie.
About Gene Simmons, I’m not watching Celebrity Apprentice, even though I’ve seen every other season, but there was a great interview of Gene Simmons with Terry Gross from Fresh Air on NPR that is incredibly obnoxious. They took the audio off of NPR’s site but I found it linked on another blog. Here is the link:
Sorry, Jen. The kids with the liquor candies have to face the punishment whether they “knew” or not. One of the most difficult things about setting rules is being consistent in their enforcement. To let a kid off the hook because she didn’t know opens the door to all sorts of trouble in the future. How many kids will subsequently claim that they “didn’t know”? Even if it’s just one you have opened the floodgates for all sorts of problems. As a sub you must have seen the repercussions of when rules are not 100% for everyone regardless of the circumstances.
We have a “water only” policy on our campus. If I catch a kid sucking down a gatorade in class I have to tell them no and to go put on the back counter. I may feel bad for them because they are sick but I can’t stop to care about that. If I let that kid have their gatorade then suddenly I’ll have 6 more that are sick and then what do I do? You can see the dilemma.
I just noticed Nathan’s link didn’t show up in his comment. If anyone’s interested, here it is. (I’m actually downloading it right now.)
My guess is the kids with the liquor candies grow up to work for ad agencies that create stuff like the “Moo and Oink” jingle… ft
I’m watching “300″ tonight and think I see a familiar face in the unusual role of Theron, King Leonidas’ rival.
Sure enough, it’s Dominic West (Det. Jimmy McNulty) from The Wire!
And shockingly, Theron’s British accent turns out to be legitimate, for Dominic West is no red-faced Irish-Baltimore cop, but a classically trained British actor!
We’re worried about terrorists infiltrating our institutions, and these British actors are everywhere, hiding behind their perfect American accents. I don’t know about you, but I’m scared!
