His kids will at least always have the fond memory of when he smashed the model trains together. That was pretty cool. And I loved that film also, as a kid. I haven’t seen it in years. Maybe time to check it out again.

Yeah, I’m at least a few episodes behind… sorry…

My big “looking at something through adult eyes” experience is the movie “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” Saw it as a kid and thought, way cool… wouldn’t that be an amazing experience. Saw it as an adult and came away almost offended. I mean crimony, the guy abandons his family! I mean sure, he gets to travel the galaxy with his new E.T.-lookalike buddies… but what about his kids? They’re going to be hoping he gets dissected… ft

I am a huge Kerouac fan but ‘On The Road’ is not one of my favs. I love ‘Desolation Angels’ and ‘The Dharma Bums’. His writing is compared with BeBop horn lines – running along with barely room for a breath.

BTW Shawno, if you declare yourself the winner of National Podcast Post Month (a position that I fully support), you have to come back next year to defend your title! (Read the NaPodPoMo rematch clause!)

Marc, are you making sure the checkbox that says “Notify me via e-mail when new comments are posted to this entry” under the “Submit comment” button is checked? ‘Cause if it it’s checked, you should get follow-up comments in your e-mail. I just heard from our web hosting company, and apparently there was some SNAFU between their e-mail and servers and Gmail that was causing some problems with delayed messages. That’s supposed to be fixed now, though.

Thanks for your input, Paul. It’s weird. I used to get all of the e-mails for all comments sent to me right away. But since about a week ago, some comments (not all) have been delayed. I’ll have to contact my web host and see if something’s clogging up the tubes. I know someone else who uses the same company and he had a similar problem.

And yes, you do need to subscribe to comment notifications for each entry. Don’t think there’s any other way to do it with this setup.

I’ve had them for this one, is it supposed to be global or per show thread,it says “Notify me via e-mail when new comments are posted to this entry”, i only get them when i comment on a show so it seems to be per show. But wordpress should send you emails when comments are posted anyway as you are the post author. (I’m on gmail btw)

You know what “classic” book I couldn’t stand? “The Great Gatsby.” I read it in high school and found it to be incredibly boring. Maybe I’ll read it again when I grow up.

Also, has anyone else been having difficulties receiving e-mails about new comments? I’m not always getting them, and I’m the site administrator!

A tedious read? I don’t find a first person story about a young man searching for his own identity to be tedious at all. I could see why a girl might not like it though. Even I will concede that Holden is an annoying jerk. That’s the point of the character. Most of us were annoying jerks in one fashion or another. We might have been like Holden or we might have been just a bit precocious.

I apparently stand “almost” corrected on the Little Women thing. I say almost because you added comments like “I’m pretty sure” and “I think I read”. Nya-nya. : )

I have hit the classics shelf pretty hard at our local Barnes and Noble. The books are inexpensive (because the copyrights have expired) and they are fun to read. I’d recommend them to most people.

I also found “Catcher In The Rye” a tedius read, i don’t think i finished it, i think it’s overrated. Thankfully I was never forced to read it at school.
