It’s Thanksgiving! At least, here in the U.S., anyway. We start the show off with a discussion of our trip to a buffet restaurant, then we read some Thanksgiving-related news stories, then we get into a long conversation about podcasting. We finish the show out with a funny Thanksgiving-related clip from director Kevin Smith.

Preroll ads.
I get frustrated that I have preroll ads on my show with Podshow, and in fact they are planning to ditch it anyway.
Overall, I don’t care about pre-roll ads. Or any ads, for that matter. But, I wouldn’t want ‘em on my show unless I recorded ‘em. And they were entertaining. I’ve pretty much tuned out the PodShow pre-rolls at this point. Though I do kinda like the voice of the woman who does the UK pre-rolls.
I went to the Dawn and Drew website just to see what they’re up to, and guess what, a pre-roll ad about Sony headphones followed by “we’re taking a much needed vacation in Costa Rica.” A couple of years ago Dawn had probably no idea where or what Costa Rica was, and now she’s there on vacation walking down the beach wearing a Podshow thong. Remember the “buy Drew an iPod” thing? That’s how much things have changed in the Podosphere.
Good to hear that your ideas on where this show could be going are much more down to earth, it would be great if you guys could do a podcast that would also air on local radio. You’re both smart and talented enough to pull something like that off. I mean Jen is, not sure about Shawno
Hello Guys,
It’s good to have you back.
Your new setup hear really nice. And YES, anyone can note the difference in sound quality.
I also called you a long time ago from Mexico to your phone, and I will do it again only to prove that the loco guys are lazy, Jajajaja.
Talking about podshow, I don’t know if Adam Curry is a bad guy, I think he is trying to make a living out of these new media, and I think is valid as long as it’s not illegal, and I also think that anyone has the right to try it ¿or not?. What it will be a shame is that the big corps or government corrupt the podcast-sphere with rules. Indeed, the difference between common Radio and Podcasting is…
1) Anyone can make a podcast. (very important, not everyone can get a permit to transmit a radio show).
2) There are no rules or no one is regulating it. (Government and Corps regulate the radio).
I we can keep the podcasting like this, Podcasting will be the 5 power “The peoples voice”.
Taking about downloads numbers…
I hear a guy from Mexico City, call Olallo Rubio, this guy went up to 1st place of talk shows in Itunes (Mexican and Americans) last year, he said that he has more than 340,000 downloads a week. Thinking about this, I remember that this guy went up into the 1st place of ratings in fm radio when I lived in Mexico City (Mexico City currently has 27 million people). So my thinking is that, if you where someone famous on radio or big media, and if you really have talent… You will be success in any media, even the Podcasting, so its just question of time for you keep on going.
By the way, I recall that a long time ago, Shonow read the list of words with more search on Google… In the first 5 places there was “Rebelde”= Revel… as James Dean.. So, this is a Teenage awfully musical group, as the “backstreet boys”, plastic made by Televisa, witch is the largest Media “Radio and TV” company in Mexico, almost a Monopoly.
Well after this cultural post. Ill will be looking forward for the next Hypernonsense Show.
Please search the word “Amero” in youtube, you will be surprise.
Sorry for my spanglish.
Saludos

When I heard that Hometown Buffet was open on Thanksgiving I thought that that must be a terrible place to work, and then you say that Mcdonalds was open and I found out that there are much worse things. Sorry to have missed you guys! I was surprisingly busy when I was up in SLO, but I’ll be coming back for Christmas (with Scott!) so we should try and get together around then!
Also, silly Walmart. No matter how many times you lower your prices it can not change the space time continuum. Oprah does that favorite thing list every year! And I know that because my mom and little sister love her. (despite this they’re usually ok otherwise).
I called. I’m local and I called. Can I keep listening now? I need you to make an exception on the Belgium thing (maybe). Holly and I want to retire to Eastern Belgium someday (it’s absolutely beautiful there). If that happens, would we fall under the blanket “banned” moniker?
Also, I found that the second half of the show got progressively more uninteresting. Maybe trim down the self-congratulating-the-media-pioneers-while-flaming-the-perceived-sellouts segments down to 10 minutes instead of 25? Sorry if that stung but the subject matter was a snooze fest. Remember, it’s easy to flame someone over the Internet(s) but if you are sincerely trying to make a go of this podcast (ie. future career … which I feel you both have the talent to do) you don’t want to burn a single bridge along your road to stardom.
Xmas break is coming, Karaoke?
The problem with Wal-Mart is that they are everywhere and they make it convenient. They are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They have everything you need under one roof. Their prices are cheap. That’s the problem with them. They make it hard for the working poor class to not shop there.
I have to pause and say BRAVA! Seriously. I am glad someone said it. I hate the fact that in the beginning podcasting was this new way of getting your content out there and it was going to be the future and then Podshow and other companies started sucking the teet of old media. Now it’s about getting noticed by old media and getting on old media distribution channels. Sorry. I find that gross. We need to get away from that. Mainly because if it continues people will continually tune in to the wrong sources for news and be fed garbage (FOX news).
I don’t ever plan on doing podcasting as a career because I think I am better at other things. It is more of a hobby for me. However, I think if there was to ever be the “perfect type” of person for this type of career it might be someone like me who hasn’t had a “real job” and could easily get into it. But of course, they would need to be more outspoken and that sort of thing than me.
I like the idea of doing citizen journalism via podcasting. I would love to do something around here where I go and interview people about projects. There are so many things I could do around here. The problem for me is just the transportation and then of course people don’t understand the medium. Then on top of that, there would be funding problems…I’d still have to have a job.
Ok. Enough rattling on. This was a great episode. Looking forward to the next (which has already downloaded).
