First off, thanks to Tom and Marc for the comments. We've received a lot of great feedback over the past week, and we'll get to a lot of it over the next few programs.

Getting back to the Audacity discussion: OK. So, I imported an AIFF file that was encoded at 44,100 khz. I checked my settings, and under the "Quality" tab, I have it set to 44,100 khz. I went ahead and exported the file to MP3. The resulting MP3 file was encoded at 32,000 khz.

See why I don't like Audacity? It don't work!

Jen, I love that you have joined WoW. Don't such a n00b though and spread yourself across servers. Pick one and stick with it or you'll never really get into the game. Go and get the expansion. You're brother is wrong. The xpac only enhanced the game content and the mythology of the world (the kind of stuff that history nerds like me get into).

Shows get better all the time. Keep it up.

On Mac, Windows and Linux (Fedora Core), I have Audacity installed and 44,100 khz is the default sample rate. I found that by going to (on the Mac) Audacity >> Preferences and then clicking on Quality. On all of my systems 44,100 khz is the default.

Thanks for the tip, Paul. I have downloaded and installed LAME 3.91 for Audacity. And within Audacity, there is a setting for bit rate, but not sample rate. Anytime I export an MP3 from Audacity, the sample rate is 32,000 khz instead of 44,100 khz. Is there a setting somewhere else that I'm missing?

Re: audacity and mp3 encoding

hey shauno

if you just downloaded audacity then you will have a not so good mp3 encoding engine, you need to get and install the lame encoder.

this is from the audacity site.

"Because of software patents, we cannot distribute MP3 encoding software ourselves. Follow these instructions to use the free LAME encoder to export MP3 files with Audacity."

Oh, I forgot to mention earlier that I have to disagree with you about Audacity. I love it. Why do I love it so much? Well, it's FREE! I can't afford something fancier, so, I use it. Although, being able to make some killer mixes would be nice.

We comment because it's a really good show.

I'm the same way about comments, excited every time I get one. It feels really good. Get a good warm and fuzzy feeling.

I didn't have to fast forward the song this time, it was good!
